BYD Flash Charging: 10 to 97% in Just 9 Minutes — Coming to Europe

A Game-Changing Charging Speed
BYD has this week presented what could be the most significant charging technology yet. Their second-generation Blade Battery, equipped with "flash charging", can charge an EV from 10 to 97 percent in just 9 minutes. From 10 to 70 percent takes only 5 minutes.
These numbers are staggering. Charging an EV almost fully in the same time it takes to fill up with petrol — that eliminates one of the last major arguments against electric cars.
How BYD Flash Charging 2.0 Works
The new technology uses 10C charging, meaning the battery can accept current equivalent to 10 times its capacity. That is roughly double the speed of the best fast chargers on the market today. The battery combines lithium iron phosphate (LFP) with a new cell structure that withstands higher charging power without generating harmful heat.
BYD states that their new Blade 2.0 battery also offers up to 1,036 km range (WLTP) in the largest configurations.
First Models with Flash Charging
What This Means for Sweden
BYD is expanding aggressively in Europe, and their charging network is growing rapidly. In Sweden, BYD models like ATTO 3 and SEAL U DM-i are already available for private leasing. When flash charging arrives in European models — likely in the second half of 2026 — it could completely change the calculus for those hesitating between EVs and petrol cars.
