Tesla cuts Model Y price with new bonus — from SEK 459,900

Tesla has launched a new bonus that pushes the Model Y price down to SEK 459,900 — the lowest ever for the model in Sweden. The move comes amid a period where competition for EV buyers has never been fiercer.

New Tesla bonus cuts the entry price

The new Tesla bonus applies when purchasing a Model Y and is deducted directly from the list price. With the discount, the Model Y starts from SEK 459,900, making it significantly more competitive against the likes of Volvo EX30 and Kia EV6.

Model Y has long been one of the most popular EVs in Sweden, but increased competition from Chinese brands in particular has forced Tesla to become more aggressive with pricing.

The car still offers one of the market's best boot spaces with up to 2,123 litres with the rear seats folded, and the range sits at over 500 km according to WLTP.

Plug-in hybrids gain new market share

At the same time, a major test from M3 magazine shows that plug-in hybrids shouldn't be written off. In the February 2026 issue, several new PHEVs were tested, including the Ford Ranger PHEV, which combines a 2.3-litre petrol engine with a 75 kW electric motor.

The Ford Ranger PHEV offers 41 km of electric range and can tow 3.5 tonnes — a combination that makes it interesting for those who need a work vehicle but want to drive electrically for daily commutes. Vehicle tax lands at just SEK 360 per year.

This shows that the market still has room for multiple powertrain options, even though the trend points increasingly towards fully electric.

What does this mean for privatleasing?

When purchase prices drop, privatleasing prices typically follow with a delay of a few months. Tesla's price pressure could mean that Model Y leases fall below SEK 5,000 per month in the near future.

For anyone weighing up plug-in hybrid versus EV, privatleasing is an excellent way to try without long-term commitment. Compare current deals at PrivatLeasa.se to find the option that best suits your needs.
